The action scenes are well-detailed and a lot of fun!įor a longer review including premise, visit my site. For the folks who just want the joy of seeing dinos and humans beat each other up, absolutely read this. For readers who need to have careful, reasoned plotting, read something else. Yes, it’s funny that I can buy into the idea of dinos coming to earth to save us from raptors, but I can’t buy into many of the details. At the very least I’d think they’d be reserved for outdoor fighting. Given the fact that most dinos wouldn’t be able to manipulate fine machinery, how did they build spaceships? How did they arrive already fitted with electronic enhancements? Why would the government agree to the immense amount of money, time, and collateral damage required to send in a team of dinos with weapons blazing, when they could just drop a carefully-targeted bomb or SWAT team? The dinos don’t exactly fit in any building they go into, so they are less effective, and more globally damaging, than much of our own weaponry. I wanted to buy into the whole thing, but I couldn’t let go of some of the holes. I definitely had some problems with the willing suspension of disbelief. The action scenes are tightly wound, and non-violent scenes offer brief glimpses into how this all works. This short piece of fiction consists mainly of the dinos and their allies going toe-to-toe with the raptors and their people. ![]() ![]() My hat’s off to people like Tom Wright, who are diving in to take advantage of this opportunity. It’s fantastic that folks are realizing that the existence of electronic publishing–not necessarily in conjunction with a big publisher–allows writers to strike out in new directions. I'm sure teens who like dinosaurs and science fiction would definitely like this. It's not great lit by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a fun way to take a break from harder, more seriously books. If you like those cheesy, low budget straight to TV action movies you see on the sci-fly network, this is definitely the book for you. He kinda reminds me of Sheldon Cooper from "Big Bang theory" Rexie is very bad ass, in a "shoot first ask questions later" kinda way & Spike is very analytical & kinda awkward, but in a very endearing way. & we did get to some very distinct characteristics in a couple of the dinosaurs. & it actually did manage to get a good deal of back story and world building into s single chapter (chapter 2) with was good. (Maybe the author is a fan of that old kids show "Dino squad"?) It's not trying to be more than a fun, action sci-fy story & it helps that you can tell it's not trying to be some great work of literature. and the length of the story doesn't give us much time for character growth.īut the story was fun & inventive. The writing isn't so great, but it is serviceable. It's short and easy to read, doesn't require a lot of thought, and is ridiculously cheesy. It's not all that great, but it certainly is fun. It's got a definite "book candy" sort of feel to it. "Raptor threat" is a fun, action packed little novel. Alien Dinosaurs wearing futuristic armor & warring to save earth from evil Raptors?
